AC- Graduated in May 2022 with a degree in Architectural Design, Cape Fear Community College. Currently working with an Architect as his assistant/CAD designer
Z-Enrolled in a certification course for Phlebotomy and started clinicals this week. Baby is thriving and she is enjoying the mentor experience and curriculum information.
K- .Enrolled child in public school and second child in Smart Start Program. Secured safe housing with relatives away from abusive boyfriend
B- .Court upheld father’s version of a child abuse case alleging injury. Father was totally exonerated and able to continue with his Nursing Degree/career at UNCW. Our motherhood and fatherhood mentors were instrumental in assisting with support, DSS and help understanding legal proceedings.
J-Regained custody of baby from foster care. Tested negative for drug use, Baby is growing and thriving. Mentor assisted in getting a washer/dryer donated to them. Fatherhood mentor group assisted with home repairs.
K- Attending moms groups at church. Baby doing wll.
M- New job, baby doing well. Relationship with Baby dad is strong and supportive. Mentor has provided supplies, education and encouragement.
J- Moving to a house, purchased a car and just awarded custody of her daughter through the process. Trained as a Pharmacy Technician and now employed.
Ju- Came to Samaras with the hopes of providing a better life for her child. She was working very long, irregular hours at a fast food establishment. Through help from her mentor, she enrolled in a 911 Dispatch Training Program. She has been offered a position with New Hanover County Call Center. She is earning more, qualifying for health benefits and has regular hours. She is doing this alone as the baby father has not been involved. Her mentor is very impressed with her accomplishments!
T- New referral who has come to our Pop-Up Shops. She has an 18 month old girl, a 3 week old baby boy. She has been extremely grateful for the help, resources and conversations she has had with the staff. So much so, that she did an online referral and will now be part of our village!
AY- 17 year old pregnant teen who has completed grade 9. Very supportive family. She just got a job and was encouraged by her mentor to continue as long as she feels well and with doctor approval. The income is helping with supplies and food, as well as Samara’s Resource Closet. Mentor is working on “Before Baby Arrives” curriculum to educate and prepare her for the delivery.
AM- She recently secured stable housing for her and her son. She has strong family support. Housing was assisted through Coastal Horizons.
SH- She has expressed an interest in obtaining her GED. After conversations with her mentor, she agreed that she needs to have some career goals for her family stability. She is very engaged in the curriculum and how to help her baby develop and thrive.
SH-The mom and baby dad are working closely together and doing well. The dad agreed to accept a father mentor this week. He has started GED classes and they are planning to move into their own space by September.
R- Accepted assistance with a Nurse Coordinator for maternity help. Our mentor provided the connection to help this young mom obtain vision and hearing medical care through the BC Health Department.
